Verizon Wireless LTE 4G is coming in November 2010

October 25, 2010

Verizon Wireless is deploying the world’s first large-scale 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network to 38 markets and more than 60 commercial airports across the nation, covering more than 110 million Americans.

While Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE network promises much more than speed, the first application gives employees the ability to work at significantly faster speeds and improved latency, increasing productivity and the opportunity to get work done where their business takes them.

So does this make 4G just a souped-up version of 3G, enabling the same apps, just boosting them on steroids? Not exactly, Notwell said. LTE has more tricks than just faster connection speeds. One of the key yet under-reported features of LTE is its low latency — the time it takes for a packet to make a round trip through the network. 3G latencies can be as high as 750 milliseconds, introducing noticeable delay into data transactions, Notwell said, but LTE drops those numbers to 30 milliseconds.

“The significance of that is anything less than 50 milliseconds is considered real time,” Notwell said. “What happens when you put real time in front of your application?”

The answer to that questions is a number of applications that never made their way from wireline networks to wireless networks. While voice over IP, an application heavily dependent on low latency, has been making its way to the wireless data network, its more sophisticated cousin videoconferencing hasn’t made sizable in-roads. Apple made a splash with the introduction of its Facetime video chat app, but the service is limited to Wi-Fi connections. Low latency will also open up a whole new world of network gaming to the mobile device. Massively multiplayer online role playing games and first-person shooter network death matches are all heavily dictated by network response speeds. You might pull the trigger faster than your opponent, but if his packet reaches the server before yours does, you’re dead.

Verizon Wireless will first have data cards and a MiFi for the new LTE network in mid November 2010. The plans for these devices will be different from the current data plans. I have seen plans starting at $20 for 1GB and up to 10GB for $80.

I can leg press 1000lb 32 times

October 5, 2010

My brother told me the other day that I have the strongest chicken legs he has ever seen. So I decided to take a video of myself doing the leg press machine at La Fitness in Tampa. I wore my Verizon Wireless cap to also promote myself as the Verizon Guy in Tampa. I hope by posting this video to Youtube, Qik, Facebook and this Blog I will get a lot of hits promoting my business selling Verizon Wireless Products and Services in Tampa, Florida.

Put videos on a Blog easily with a Blackberry

September 26, 2010

I want to do quick video post using my cell phone to take the video and then up loading from the phone to YouTube so it can be used on my Blog.

My options are I can take a short video now with my Blackberry Bold 9700 and MMS the video to YouTube. The video is sent as a multimedia message to YouTube and the anyone can see your video on YouTube. After the video is uploaded to Youtube it can be link to websites and or Blogs.

The issue I have is that a MMS video is only 30 seconds and the quality is not as good as the higher resolution videos that can be taken with the Blackberry Bold 9700. A normal video can be a few minutes long or as long as you have room on your media card.

I have a few other ways to upload longer and better quality videos to YouTube. First is to take a good quality video with the phone which is recorded on the SD card. Then take my SD media card use the SD adapter to upload the video from my laptop or desktop to YouTube.

Secondly is using my Motorola Backflip it let’s me upload videos taken with it directly to YouTube without the 30 second restriction. I am sure it has something to do with Google owning Android mobile operating system and Youtube. My first test was a 5 minute video I took waiting for the draw bridge to open.

I have told clients about that option with Android Smartphones but there success has been with videos under 30 seconds when the video is a few minutes long they have to have a WiFi connection for the video to upload.

I found a fix for that using Qik. I used to use Qik with my Blackberry Bold 9000 but now that I use a Blackberry Bold 9700 the Qik application on the 9700 is not supported. I still download the Qik application through my Blackberry browser and used it to upload the video that I already had taken.
I am going to caution anyone who does this, it is not supported.I know that I have to stop right after and close the application and then I do a hard reset but I am the Mobile Wise Guy of Cell Phones. After uploading the video I embed it into my Blog.

The video below was taking at Universal Studios on New Years Eve 2009 with my Blackberry Bold 9700. http://qik.com/video/4253883[object 1]

CNN – Samsung offers free phones to frustrated iPhone users

July 25, 2010

Sent from mobilewiseguy@gmail.com’s mobile device from http://www.cnn.com.

Samsung offers free phones to frustrated iPhone users

It appears that technology giant Samsung is handing out free Galaxy S smartphones to iPhone 4 owners frustrated by reception problems. An account on Twitter called @samsungukmobile is contacting people who’ve tweeted about their difficulties with the handset, asking them to submit their contact details to receive a free handset.

One of those offered a handset was Tiffany Nieuwland, who told Wired: “My iPhone and I have been inseparable for almost a month now, tomorrow being one month since the iPhone OS 4 launched. But the honeymoon period ended this week as repeated dropped calls, and a sudden unexplainable inability to make or receive calls or send texts left me disgruntled.

“So I did what anyone else would do: I vented my frustration on Twitter. Imagine my surprise, then, when this morning I am tweeted by Samsung offering me a free Galaxy S, their latest phone. Too good to be true? I decided to investigate.

“I called a friend at Samsung, and though she was initially sceptical, it has now been confirmed: the campaign is legit. Samsung is so confident about the superiority of the Galaxy S that they’re sending free ones to existing iPhone customers so they can decide for themselves.”

It’s an interesting and unconventional approach to marketing the device, which is powered by Android 2.1 and features a whopping great big 4.0-inch AMOLED display. It’s entirely possible that Samsung has taken a gamble that getting a few of the devices out in the wild, so that people can see and play with them, will be worth the initial outlay in terms of the effect they’ll have on sales.

Tiffany added: “I’ve been waiting for an excuse to try out an Android for months, but it is yet to be seen if I can be persuaded to stray.” Would you convert to Android if the phone was offered up free? Tell us in the comments.

Update: We’ve got official word from Samsung that this is legitimate. A spokesperson for the company told us: “Recently there has been a real increase in online activity from consumers dissatisfied with some of our competitors’ products. We decided to contact a cross section of individuals to offer them a free Samsung Galaxy S as a replacement, as we’re confident that once people have the phone in their hands, they’ll see how impressive it is for themselves.”
